AMCI's ME15 SSI rotary shaft encoder is designed for cost sensitive applications that require bullet-proof reliability. The ME15 magnetic encoder measures just under 1.5" in diameter and is engineered for heavy-duty operation across a variety of industries. The encoder's IP67 rating protects against dust and moisture, and the sensor's compact design only relies on two components, ensuring trouble free operation.
AMCI's ME15 SSI encoder utilizes a small diametrically polarized magnet and a custom ASIC that contains an array of Hall sensors that generate a voltage when exposed to a magnetic field. The ASIC detects the change in magnetic flux distribution as the magnet rotates above it and outputs a voltage level that represents the angular position. The ASIC also has the ability to ignore any interfering magnetic fields, allowing the ME15 to operate in areas of high external fields.
Summary: The ME15’s small size, high reliability, IP67 protection rating and low cost make it an ideal replacement for potentiometers and small industrial encoders. A sturdy machined housing and a high resistance to shock and vibration make these encoders an ideal fit and capable withstanding difficult environmental conditions, including electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise generated by neighboring currents.

The following diagram shows the signal protocol of the SSI version of the ME15 encoder. This format is used on ME15 Encoders both with and without the multiplexing option.
Tint = The time of one interrogation
Tclk = The period of the clock pulse
Tidle = The time between the last Clock pulse and the first falling edge of the next clock cycle
Tm = The time that the Stop bit is valid, typically 15 to 20 μs
Note 1: Use only 10 SSI clock pulses if only the absolute angular position data is needed.
Note 2: On ME15 SSI encoders with the multiplexing option, there will be separate Enable Lines for each encoder, but the Data and Clock lines of all of the ME15's will be connected together.
Note 3: When using the multiplexing option, a high signal on the Enable input disables the encoder by placing the Data Output lines in a high impedance state. When the Enable input is pulled low, the ME15 encoder will continuously output its data until the Enable input is again pulled high. The enable input must not be left floating.
